Chimney sweep Lubicchi lives in an isolated town where the sky is entirely covered by thick black smoke. His father once dreamt of a world of stars and wonder beyond the smog but he has since disappeared. On Halloween night Lubicchi meets a strange new friend, Garbage Man, and together they attempt to fulfill Lubicchi’s father’s dreams, who has since disappeared.

Animated by leading Japanese animated Studio 4°C, the film is always visually engaging, with particularly eye-pleasing opening and closing sequences. Poupelle of Chimney Town is full of heart and children of most ages will have a good time, but it over-explains itself and suffers from some poor musical numbers.
