Knife + Heart

Summertime in late seventies Paris is the setting for this week’s Friday Night Film pick Knife + Heart, Yann Gonzalez’s heavily stylized, giallo-inspired queer thriller.

A masked stalker, wielding a knife disguised as a dildo, preys on and murders the young gay men cast in the adult film ‘Homicidal’. With the police seemingly uninterested, film producer Anne takes it upon herself to investigate the mysterious killer.

A throwback to the sleazy slashers that were so prominent in eighties exploitation cinema, and reminiscent of William Friedkin’s Cruising, Knife + Heart is a sensory feast, shot on rich 35mm with a gorgeous colour palette and an electric, pulsating score by M83.
