Guillermo Del Toro’s latest foray into the macabre comes in the form of Nightmare Alley – a remake of a classic film noir – and hits UK cinemas today.

Del Toro is well versed when it comes to exploring the theme of dark morality with goth-drenched aesthetics, but for this week’s Friday Night Film pick we’re going to venture in the direction of another contemporary filmmaker who made his own tale of darkness and dread.

Park Chan-wook’s underrated psychological thriller Stoker, dripping in gothic atmosphere and with a leading turn from Mia Wasikowska – who also stars in Del Toro’s horror-romance Crimson Peak – is a lavishly stylish and gloriously sensory experience.
